From October 22nd – 26th 2018, the research team at TU Delft launched a next innovative curriculum element called ‘Interdisciplinary Conceive, Design, Implement and Operate Boot Camp’ course at Delft University of Technology.
This course, developed by Mariana Leandro Cruz, was designed as a week-long bootcamp that provided participating students the opportunity to get acquainted with the three professional roles as well as competencies required for each of those roles such as creativity, innovation, out of the box thinking, persuasion, client-focus, planning & organisation, teamwork and lifelong learning.
Three students of different engineering disciplines and cultural backgrounds worked together as a team. During the first phase of the course, students interviewed customers to understand their needs. Based on that information they generated ideas, design and build a learning activity that allows primary school children to discover what an engineer is. In the second phase of the course, students optimised their prototype after another feedback moment with the customer. Finally they had to convey their final product.
The concept of the boot camp course worked out very well so a future implementation of the course will take place in 2019.
